A graduate of 5 sniper schools, Squad Designated Marksman and Close Quarter Marksman courses, along with various other shooting schools. Currently a Small Arms Instructor. Served in Iraq and Afghanistan. In Afghanistan specialized in reconaissance and lead a 6 man team on missions and was awarded the Silver Star.
A native of upstate New York, Hawes has been an avid hunter, fisherman, and outdoorsman his entire life. The combination of his training, experience and interests, coupled with his willingness to share his guarded knowledge and his communication skills as an Instructor generate a tremendous resource to interested civilians in the most specific sense.

Civilian Marksmanship Program(CMP) Master Instructor, National Rifle Association (NRA) Rifle and Pistol Instructor, and NRA/CMP/USAS Certified Rifle Coach Level III and level two high power rifle coach; NRA Range Safety Officer (RSO), Appleseed Program Shoot Boss, PSIA XC, Alpine, and Adaptive Certified Ski Instructor, New York State Licensed Guide, CPR, First aide, AED certified.
John served in the United States Marine Corps with an ANGLICO team and then became an Infantry Officer in the US Army for nearly 20 years. He served in every major combat action and rock fight from 1990 untill he retired in 2007. He served in positions from Platoon leader and Rifle Company Commander to specialty areas. He has an extensive knowledge and training in multi-echelon techniques for training and operations at small unit and higher levels for both tactical and strategic contingencies. His decorations include the Combat Infantry Badge, Combat Action Badge and Bronze Star.
